Currently (see article linked below), for patients on coumadin (and other blood thiners), it is recommended not to change the blood thinners for dental treatment, even simple extractions. There is a 3 times higher risk of blood clots than prolonged bleeding. Prolonged bleeding from dental extractions is generally not life threatening, however blood clots can be life threatening.ADA article on Coumadin and Dental treatment |
